Web reporting

Available in Seagate Crystal Reports Developer Edition and Seagate Crystal Reports Professional.

Scalable to meet increased user demands

The Web Component Server has been re-designed to better handle the specific needs of a thin-wire environment, so reports are built for the demands of the Web.

Page-on-demand report access lets users download only the specific report pages that they need to see, improving response times and reducing web traffic.

The redesigned web component server supports most Microsoft®, Netscape® and CGI-based web servers to give scalable high performance reporting.

See reports immediately, in real-time

Enjoy live viewing of any Seagate Crystal Report over the Web. View reports in full presentation quality using report viewers for Netscape and Microsoft browsers. Viewers for Active X also support copying and pasting text from the browser into other applications.

Viewer improvements

The architecture of Seagate Crystal Reports 8 has been enhanced for the Web. View most reports more quickly with as much information available while processing continues in the background. You don't have to wait for total page count or processing to finish. You see a report complete with data, but containing place holders for time-consuming objects like graphics and subreports.

Seagate Crystal Reports completes processing in the background; missing information is automatically added to the web page. In the end, whether you are refreshing for up-to-the-minute results in real-time or loading reports with saved data, you see pages faster.

A new Netscape plug-in lets you use the Report Viewer for ActiveX in Netscape Navigator. This provides Netscape users with all the functionality of the ActiveX report viewer, including the ability to print reports close to WYSIWYG quality.

The Report View for Java is compatible with Sun's Java 2 Runtime Environment v.1.2.2, and is compatible with both Microsoft and Netscape browsers.

Improvements to report formats over the Web

You have the ability to export reports to an improved HTML format. These exporting types retain formatting to ensure your report is easy to read.

Use Web folders to maintain reports

If you are running Microsoft Windows 9x, Windows NT with Microsoft Office 2000, or Windows 2000, you can store, update, and save reports directly to a web folder on a web server. You no longer have to download reports, edit them locally, and upload them to the web server.

Add hyperlinks to reports

Create reports for end users that are active documents—just like any web page—with links to other related documents including files, web sites or other reports. Hyperlinks can be associated with most report objects, including text and pictures, and with dynamic objects such as database and formula fields. Hyperlinks are executed by simply clicking on a linked object in either the Preview window or web viewer. Full URL support is provided for hypertext, file, mail and news hyperlinks.
